Day 1A came to an end at the first leg of the GUKPT 2009 and there were plenty of familiar faces making their way to Day 2 on Saturday.
Player of the Year 2008 Marc Goodwin ended the day propping up the chip counts with a paltry 10,325. Fellow Brummie Mickey Wernick also made it through with just over 20,000 having been playing tight on a tiny stack of 3,000 for much of the day. Ian Frazer and internet whizz, student Jack ‘Doctor_Fun’ Powell go into Saturday sitting pretty, but it’s Dinh Doat Le who leads the way on 83,075.
Day 1B of the tournament won by Julian Thew last year and Dave Smith the year before, will start Friday from 2pm when the rest of the Day 1 field will whittle down to a manageable 35-odd to return on Day 2. Play then continues on Saturday with a final table on Sunday where players will compete for a juicy prize pool and an estimated 1st prize of £68,000.
