Footballer’s Poker Pants

Football fans around the country were left bemused this week when Burnley striker Robbie Blake scored at Coventry and then dropped his shorts to reveal a garish pair of bright red underpants bearing the slogan ‘Bad Beat Bob’.
For those not au fait with poker terminology, here’s Robbie to explain the reasons behind his unsightly choice of undergarments.
“A bad beat is when you have a good poker hand that is a clear favourite to win but is beaten. When we play on the bus, I think I am miles ahead and it turns out the only card someone needs to beat me, they get!
“When Clarke Carlisle told me he’d got me a present and I had to wear them at Coventry, I said no problem. Then he turns up with these bright red slips with, ‘Bad Beat Bob’ on. He said, ‘If you score, you have to whip them bad boys out’ — what great timing!”
It was Blake’s first goal since he scored twice against Watford way back in March, and it handed Burnley an 88th minute lead at the Ricoh Arena.
Blake was yellow carded for the mischievous stunt, and while he will now wear the lucky pants again, he won’t be putting them on public display again. "I'll have to wear them every week now, but I might have to keep them under wraps or I'll end up with a suspension!" he said.
