The World Series of Poker Europe starts today and the betting markets are wide open. The event sponsors Betfair and Paddy Power are taking bets for the WSOPE, held at London’s Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square this year.
Betfair has opened two markets, the ‘Top Betfair Pro’ as well as a ‘Number of Entrant’ market, which will soon be flooded with bets when the side events start. They are also certain to have ‘to win’ and ‘final table’ markets, which will start when the tournament gets underway as well as many in-play options.
Paddy Power has opened their ‘to win’ market on the main event. Joint favourites at 50/1 are Phil Ivey, Allen Cunningham, Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius. Last year’s main event winner Annette Obrestad is 66/1 to win and Ram Vaswani is the most promising British player at 80/1.
The WSOPE is the biggest poker series, with the biggest prize pool in Europe and the only tournament outside of the US where winners can receive coveted WSOP bracelets. Last year internet player Obrestad became an overnight sensation, taking away the £1 million first prize, the largest ever sum of money won by a woman at a sporting event. This year the event will be taking place from today until October 2.
