Johnny Depp Seeks Poker Winnings from Rock Band

While on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean, it has been reported that Depp played many games of poker during his breaks in between scenes. In addition to members of the cast and crew of the film, Depp also played against rock band, We Are Scientists.
The band was invited to the set of Pirates of the Caribbean in Barbados two or three years ago just after their first album was released after the band had mentioned that they enjoyed the film. They then met Depp at one of the parties hosted by the film’s producers and were invited by him to play poker.
Chris Cain, bass player of the band, said the experience was amazing. “He was infatuated that we’re in a band,” he said. “I guess he’s always dreamed of being a rock star.” As the game continued the band came to realise that they were no match for Depp who takes his poker very seriously. As the game came to a close after only two hours, We Are Scientists collectively owed Depp $28,000. The band has defended their poor play claiming they were put off by the excitement at meeting the A-list Hollywood actor and described the experience as a million times better than meeting any of their music heroes.
Lead singer of the band, Keith Murray, also commented that they were not the first to loose in a game of poker against Depp. He said claimed that Orlando Bloom, Depp’s co-star in Pirates of the Caribbean, had also lost to him. However, Bloom’s $800,000 loss dwarfs We Are Scientists’ $28 000 debt.
