Gambling Gain in Spain

Monday, September 01, 2008
Always a hot topic, the Spanish government met in mid June to discuss a possible new bill to regulate online gambling, according to Interior Ministry sources.
Assembled were the Spanish Gambling Commission, representatives from Spain’s autonomous regions, the Interior Ministry, Tax Authorities and the National Agency of Lotteries and Betting, and the main topic of discussion was the country’s rapidly-growing mobile, remote and online gaming markets.
It doesn’t exactly pack the excitement of an edge-of-your-seat thriller or even average Will Ferrell skits, but the outcome of this meeting may put eager Spanish gamers in a whole new state of ecstasy as representatives proposed that a new law should establish clear taxation policies regarding online gambling. It was also proposed how the new law should incorporate a system of control over online gaming operators, guaranteeing fair market conditions as well as providing protection for customers. The future couldn’t come fast enough for the best thing to rock Spain since Gaudi.
